Kalabagh Films

About Us

Kalabagh literally means Dark Tiger, or scientifically speaking, melanistic tiger which is a rarity in the wild. The name is also an ode to the birthplace of our founder Nishant’s grandfather. Kalabagh Films is a self-funded venture and we are in the business of making films, and helping our clients make films. The company itself was established in late 2023 but the brains behind it are in this field since much longer. Together, Nishant & Himani lead the Creative as well as Production part of documentary film projects.

Rob Sullivan

(Co-director, DisneyNature Tiger)

“Nishant has been a great asset to our Disneynature Tiger team throughout five years of production and is a huge pleasure to work with. He’s an excellent communicator, and a consummate diplomat, with solid technical knowledge and field skills to back it up. Nishant’s understanding of animal behaviour is a great help when assisting our expert cameramen in the jungle. His silky drone skills and hands-on camera experience have been invaluable, and he is always great company on location.”

Emma Ballinger & Philip Dalton

(Producers, John Downer Productions Ltd.)

“Nishant quickly became an invaluable member of our Indian team during two years of production, particularly in Madhya Pradesh. Initially joining the project as a location fixer and assistant, he swiftly progressed to camera operator, spending months in the field. While supporting our lead cameramen, Nishant played a crucial role in resolving any issues that arose within the parks. Behind the lens, his patience and technical expertise were instrumental in capturing extraordinary footage. His deep knowledge of the local wildlife, combined with his skill in operating and managing multiple remote cameras as well as the main camera, he became a well-honed asset, delivering a wealth of fascinating material for production. Later in production, Himani joined the team as a DIT, taking charge of the overwhelming task of organising and managing an enormous volume of remote camera footage—a Herculean effort. Beyond media management, Himani excelled at deploying remote cameras strategically, ensuring they captured key moments at the right place and time. Both Nishant and Himani were an absolute pleasure to work with and invaluable contributors to our production.”

Emma Hatherley

(Director/Producer, BBC Asia)

“Nishant & Himani played a pivotal role in multiple shoots for the BBC 1 landmark series ‘ASIA’ and approached each one with a fantastic attitude: no detail too small and no challenge too great. With excellent negotiating skills, they helped us navigate complex permitting processes and secure access to challenging locations. They are great company and when working remotely, and their communication is excellent- open, honest, and always fast to respond. Nishant’s talents as a drone pilot and cameraman were invaluable for recce-ing locations and planning filming. I highly recommend collaborating with Nishant & Himani and hope to have the opportunity to work with him again.”
